The Elders are [[Chaos fiends|Fiends of Chaos]], they were never human but gained the ability to interact with the world in a way we recognize as intelligent from humanity. Their power rivals that of the [[Abidan|Abidan Judges]] and just as the Abidan manipulate [[The Way and The Worlds|The Way]] the Elders are suspected of manipulation of Chaos.

Asylum is practically a holding cell to imprison the Elders. If they get out, they're scary. The [[Abidan]] originally intended to use it temporarily til the Elders fully corrupted it so that [[Ozriel]] could destroy it. Which wouldn't kill the Elders, but would drive them back into the void. So it was really just keeping them off the streets for a while. Then the [[Emperor]] came along, and humanity has prospered beyond what the [[Abidan]] ever expected. That tethers the world more strongly to the Way and strengthens the prison, weakening the Elders. So Asylum has held on much longer than anyone anticipated.

The Elders, don't want to be trapped there OR cast back into the void. They want to escape into other Iterations, which is exactly what the Abidan don't want. Back in the day, the Elders could have depopulated humanity. They didn't; they kept just enough alive to make sure the Abidan wouldn't obliterate the place while the Elders looked for a way out.

Asylum is a protected world to ensure the Elders don't escape due to Corruption of the iteration. This is also why the Emperor has not been offered Ascension though he clearly meets the power requirements. The planet is effectively sealed off.

The Elders each have a specific nature and each of the Elders usually act according to that nature. When they were free this usually meant that they stayed out of each other's way, but while they are trapped on Asylum, this can mean that they sometimes come into conflict with each other, such as with Othaghor and Kthanikahr.

As a Great Elder Ach'magut does not have a personality that can be compared to humankind, however like all the Great Elders, Ach'magut does posses a set of goals:

Because of this Ach'magut does not necessarily want the malicious destruction of humankind. [[Emperor|The Emperor]] actually learned [[Reading]] in [[Ach'magut's Library]] and organizations such as [[The Sleepless]] view him, along with [[Kelarac]], as one of the best hopes for human and non-human interaction. However, above everything else Ach'magut simply wants to learn and then to move on. Whether humans survive or not is completely irrelevant.

The Emperor also describes him in the following: "''In a way, the human world is his creation more than my own. He spared my life, gave me the education I needed to advance Reading and build an empire. He's not a destroyer, he's a parasite. He leaches onto a world until he's learned everything he can, and then he moves on. But he's not above taking something apart to see how it works.''"

He as also been known to allow deviations from his plans as long as it means that he can learn more from the deviation.

==Powers & Abilities==
Ach'magut possesses all the powers and abilities that are common of the Great Elders. This includes an absolute mastery of [[Intent]] and a presence that could easily corrupt the minds of humans that go near him, as well as commanding an army of [[Elder Spawn]] to further his goals. However, Ach'mugut's powers are reduced substantially while he is trapped on Asylum. Despite this handicap he is still far beyond the abilities of most humans.

===Near Omniscience===
Ach'magut is a Great Elder with authority over knowledge, as such his intelligence is beyond the humans on Asylum. Even The Emperor himself cannot match Ach'magut in a battle of wits. He has also demonstrated the ability to predict events far in the future as well as concoct plans that span millennia.

===Immortality===
It is virtually impossible to permanently kill a Great Elder such as Ach'magut. His body has been destroyed a few times, but given enough time he will always reform.

===Knowledge Bestowal===
When Ach'magut speaks, the full meaning and nuance of his words is directly sent to the receivers mind. Most of his sentences only span a few words, but each word essentially has the meaning of an entire speech. <br />
