Ancestor’s Spear

The prize of the desolate ruins the Ancestors Spear is sought by all factions of the desolate wilds during the later half of [[Soulsmith]] except perhaps [[Eithan Arelius]]. The Ancestors Spear has the special ability to consume the madra of Sacred artists stabbed by the weapon, funneling their madra into the core of the wielder. While not a perfect weapon it remains an incredibly powerful one like all weapons found in the labyrinth. Also like all weapons found in the Labyrinth it it based upon hunger madra, the study of which is the apparent purpose of the whole Labyrinth.

==Plot Relevance==
The spear is first mentioned in [[Soulsmith]], it is known to be the prize of the desolate ruins, an enormous pyramid that rose from the ground a few short days before our protagonists reach it. Upon reaching the ruins they discover the major factions that are hunting within the ruins, [[the Sandvipers]], [[the Jai clan]], the Purelake School, and [[the Fishers]], all of whom are competing to get the spear (Five Faction Alliance, although we never discover the fifth group). After several different confrontations and a training montage the spear is found by [[Yerin]] and [[Lindon]] lead by their newly minted mentor [[Eithan]]. However, the Sandvipers find them while they are looting the ruins and in the confrontation the Sandviper heir [[Kral]] is killed by Lindon. Before Jai Long can take his revenge Eithan intercedes, saving Lindon but promising Jai Long a campaign of vengeance in a year and giving Jai Long the spear.

Over the course of that year Jai Long uses that spear to wage a rebellion against his clan that has since abandoned him. The spear helps him speed his advancement but eventually when confronted by the Jai patriarch [[Jai Daishou]] he gives up his rebellion and pledges loyalty in exchange for his sisters life. Jai Daishou then attacks Eithan who "kills" him and takes the spear.

Jai Diashou then goes to the entrance to the labyrinth that is in his territory and risks the threat of the [[Dreadgod|Dreadgods]] by entering the Lord level area. There he finds a replacement for the spear, however it is broken. He believes that a [[soulsmith]] can repair the cracked one.

The next time we see the spear is during his duel with Lindon. For the first half of the fight he uses a regular spear before pulling the Ancestors Spear from his soul space. Jai Long tends to dominate the fight but Lindon is actually able to destroy the spear during the battle. None the less, Lindon loses his arm during the fight and needs to craft a replacement prosthetic and he actually uses the binding found in the Ancestors Spear. This is what makes his arm the hunger madra weapon that it is now.

While hunting a white fox in the forest of [[Yoma Mountain|Yoma mountain]], he and two friends came across his cousin, Wei Shi Lindon, in the woods. After asserting his dominance over Lindon he punched an ancestral [[Orus Fruit|Orus]] tree, breaking it, which produced a remnant. After being hit by the tree's remnant, he ran back to the Wei Clan. The [[First Elder]] calls both Wei Mon Teris and Wei Shi Lindon to the clan hall to recount the events of the day, the First Elder decides to punish him. He is required to: forgo his stipend for a month, be in solitary meditation for the night, and get whipped three times in front of the clan, as well as any other punishment that his father decides. Before the whipping, his sister challenges Lindon to a duel before the clan.

A descendant of Dragons and the teacher of [[Wei Shi Lindon]] Orthos is a turtle of great importance to the cradle novels. He is a Truegold on The Path of The Blackflame. Once in a duel long ago he crippled himself and was driven mad. Until with the help of Lindon and Little Blue he was able to regain some measure of sanity. This was further helped by his time spent in the pocket realm Ghostwater which is also the name of the book. At the end of the current book, it is inferred that he has almost fully recovered from a majority of his illnesses.

In Underlord, however, he leaves Lindon and the others, saying that Sacred Beasts do not have to undergo a revelation to reach Underlord. Instead, they chose what they wished to become (ex: Orthos could remain a turtle, become a dragon, or even become human, as seen by Seshethkunaaz, the boy King of the Dragons). For this reason, Orthos leaves and is later seen in [[Sacred Valley]] alongside Lindon's sister, [[Wei Shi Kelsa]]. It is still unknown as to what form Orthos plans on taking.

==Appearance==
His stature is described as statuesque, with wide shoulders. He was injured in a fight and now walks with a cane. After his son fled Sacred Valley, he was blinded by the Heavens Glory school, now he wears a slip of cloth around his eyes. Additionally his lip is scared.

==Personality==
Jaran likes to reminisce about his past fighting days. He is quick to temper, and believes that most things can be solved by fighting.

==Biography==
He was 16 when he became iron, and made a good showing of himself in his first 7-Year Festival. Married to Wei Shi Seisha. They have two children: a daughter Kelsa, whom they are very proud of, and a son Lindon, whom they have mixed feeling about. During the debate about who will eat the Orus fruit, Lindon asks his parents if either will advance to Jade, and both are ashamed that they will not. The first time he told his son that he was proud of him, was after a duel with Wei Mon Keth, where Lindon cheated but still won. Jaran encouraged his son to seek a reward if he did well at the 7-Year Festival, and was proud that he acquitted himself well.

Shortly after Lindon leaves [[Sacred Valley]], the Heavens Glory school decides that he must have returned to the Wei clan. When they approach him to question him, he fights them and is blinded. Currently he and his daughter are in hiding in Sacred Valley, with a new ally [[Orthos]], a majestic turtle of the Blackflame Empire. He fears for his wife, who is in captivity at the Heavens Glory School.

She is a forger on the path of the [[Path of the White Fox|White Fox]]. Her drudge looks like a rusty brown mechanical fish. It is a construct of Forged madra and assists her in various Soulsmithing-related activities, it is used as a box of tools is used by a carpenter. [[Soulsmith|Soulsmiths]] can bring in a large portion of a family’s income, because of this Seisha is valued highly. Soulsmiths create weapons and wealth for the clan, creating wonderous and magical items from madra, molding the stuff of spirits and remnants. She is also a skilled scripter, as many soulsmiths must use scripts to alter a construct. She is considered to provide a valuable function to the clan and is widely respected among all the families and has many contacts outside of the clan.

Her stature is described as statuesque. Additionally, unlike many in the Wei clan, Seisha has long brown hair, and light brown eyes. She had been a famous fighter in her youth. She is never seen without her drudge floating nearby, whistling responses to her. A saying she has is “The disciple follows the master, but a genius blazes their own trail.”

==Personality==
Seisha considers ignorance a greater threat than misfortune. Because of this she told her son what to expect on the day of his spiritual origin test. She is not afraid to correct others when they are wrong, and often answers questions, even when she does not want to. She believes that curiosity should always be rewarded, and always tries to expect the worst. She is often seen taking notes or checking scripts.

==Biography==
Married to Jaran, both were famous fighters in their youth. They have two children: a daughter Kelsa, whom they are very proud of, and a son Lindon, whom they have mixed feeling about. In the Wei clan it is up to the parents to teach their children how to read. She teaches her children both the common script and the ancient characters. Additionally, she allows her son to work with her as a Soulsmith due to his pure madra, and she teaches him basic scripting.

Relationship to her son: after his first time in the spiritual origin test, he is declared to be Unsouled, when he asks why she states, “Because the heavens wish to shame us.” Until he earns a badge, he will continue bringing shame to his family and clan. When he is tested a second time, she provides him with a drop of her own blood. Seisha teaches her son the basics of scripting, so when he goes to the test a third time, he scratches ruins into the table to make the bowl shake, this does not work.

She discovers that an Ancestral Orus tree is about to advance. She shows her son the correct script to use, which will light up if he finds the correct tree and sends him into the forest to find it. When he returns the fruit and remnant fruit, she is able to combine them into a powerful spirit fruit. However, she is embarrassed when he asks if either of his parents will advance to Jade. When his arm is broken by the remnant in the ancestral orus tree, she makes him a scripted sling that will remove pain and speed the recovery. She also made Lindon’s bed from purchased cloud madra, even the patriarch does not sleep in a better bed than her children. She spends months making a pack for him; however it is destroyed when Lindon advances to iron. Lindon believes that his mother would be proud that it helped him advance.

During the Seven-Year festival, she is put in charge of the arena. Responsible for the decorations and is expecting a reward for her services from the patriarch. When she catches her son cheating by placing remnants under the stage, she tells him that she is proud of him.

Shortly after Lindon leaves [[Sacred Valley]], the Heavens Glory school decides that he must have returned to the Wei clan. When they approach her to question her, she fights them. Her husband also fights and is blinded. Currently she is in captivity at the Heavens Glory School. She does not know that her daughter and husband are in hiding in Sacred Valley.

'''Elder Whisper''' is the original practitioner of the [[Path of the White Fox]], which was created by, and named for him. He is a five tailed snow-fox, the size of a man He is hundreds of years old, and is an original inhabitant of Sacred Valley. He also has a connection to fate.

Elder Whisper lives in a tower which stands out, a needle of white, so tall that it seems thin. Rising above the purple roofed sea like a mast of a great ship. This is one of the most prominent landmarks in all Sacred Valley and was made in the age of the clans’ founders. The lock and key on his door are made of bronze, as big as a man’s head. There is a spirit trap on door when door is closed, it traps a sacred beast or remanent in place. If he escapes, there is a second one at bottom of stairs. There is an arch that touches the ceiling so he can see out, with a script to prevent him from running down the side. No one knows that this is pointless, as he leaves whenever he wishes.

For the most part a dream was nothing more than a mind deceiving itself. Only rarely did dreams tap into greater forces, but when they did they could reveal pieces of fate. Over the years whisper had developed a sense of that fate. It was distant, imperfect, but he could dimly see the shapes of impending events. The unsouled is connected. He could be whisper corrected himself. A drowning man will seize any branch, no matter how thin. For centuries, the shape looming in his dreams had been dark and impossibly vast. It would crush them all beneath its ponderous weigh, and there was no stopping it. Sacred valleys past was coming back and bringing death with it. But there was something strange about his premonition this time, somehow, he felt as if the titanic threat were years distant and months close at the same time. One and then the other, like fate had yet to decide. Now he saw the shape of fates touch on the unsouled, the resolve in his eyes, the agony of a difficult decision. In the set of his shoulders, and the timing of his visit. The boy’s future was in flux. However, it would turn out, whisper had done what he could. Now he would wait, and watch.”

The '''Wei Clan''' is a clan in [[Sacred Valley]], and partially founded by [[Elder Whisper]]. The Wei Clan Practices the Path of the White Fox which was created by, and named for Elder Whisper. A five tailed snow-fox, the size of a man, who is hundreds of years old, and a Ture Gold Sacred Beast, with a connection to fate. They produce madra of Light and Dreams that deceived the senses, that created illusions, that twisted light and sound. White Fox Enforcers use a move called the Fox Tail, which disguises the movements of the body, your image is out of sync with reality. Strikers can use Fox Fire, purple illusionary flames that look, sound, and feel like real flames but cause no real damage. Rulers use a move called the Fox Dream, which directly control an opponent’s senses, so that they see and hear illusions. Forgers use a technique called the White Fox Mirror which creates illusionary copies of exact appearance with no real substance.

There are about 100,000 people in the clan. Each family in the receives a generous portion of land and a family dwelling with a small house added onto the main complex for each family member. Typically, children receive their own house when they get their wooden badge, as a mark of independence. They are made of tight fitting Orus wood, pale and smooth, with purple tiles. Most buildings are purple and white, reflecting the purple leaves of the Orus Trees and the white fir of the snow fox. Only one tower stands out, a needle of white, so tall that it seems thin. Rising above the purple roofed sea like a mast of a great ship. This is one of the most prominent landmarks in all Sacred Valley and was made in the age of the clans’ founders. This is where Elder Whisper Lives.

Their worlds are “Honor by Any Means”. The first patriarch stated that even deception can be used to serve honor. This is the contradiction around which the clan was created. Other values the clan holds are the strongest party should protect the weakest with their life, and that there is honor in recognizing a stronger opponent. Every Seven Years the clans hold a festival. While the original purpose was to promote unity, now it is the primary stage on which they compete. Most recently the Wei clan hosted the Seven Year Festival. An honor and a responsibility that increased the pressure on their families to perform well. They spent over a year building an arena in which to display the contests. This is a circular building of white Orus wood. The seats are tiered so that all can see, and it is decorated with sections for each clan, with a high viewing box for the four schools. The children of the clan are taught to identify the others by their clothes. Masters of illusions are masters of presentation, and the opening ceremonies are extravagant.
