'''Emriss Silentborn''' — Memory of the World, Queen of the Everwood Continent and Monarch of Titan’s Grove. The Remnant Monarch.

{{Cradle Character|Name=Emriss Silentborn|image=|Path=Path of Ten Thousand Dreams|Rank=Monarch|Faction=
|First Appearance=[[Uncrowned]]|Home=Everwood continent|Mom=|Dad=|Siblings=|Icons=}}

==Oldest Monarch??==
Emriss is the oldest of the living [[Monarch factions|Monarchs]] according to the Author:
Will Wight: “The oldest Monarch is Emriss Silentborn and she only has a couple of Icons. Her connection to them is just very thorough.” ([https://abidanarchive.com/events/25/#e1822 Archive e1822])

BUT, several years earlier, the author also said the oldest is the dragon [[Seshethkunaaz]].
Will Wight: Northstrider is older than Reigan Shen, who is older than Malice. The dragon Monarch Sesh is oldest of them all. ([https://abidanarchive.com/events/7/#e750 Archives e750])

So Emriss may be the oldest but she's a Remnant. Doesn't count among the normal living?

==Remnant of Ancient Men'hla Tree==

*She was apparently alive during the [[Dread Wars]] and by inference, after the war she managed to bind the [[Silent King]] on her lands (Reaper, ch 23)
*This Monarch is actually an ancient sacred tree that aged long enough and advanced far enough to change her shape to human and shift back to a tree, as desired.

Rumor said that Emriss Silentborn had been a men’hla tree before her ascension, and as such they were considered sacred in certain circles on the Everwood continent. (Uncrowned, ch 12)

==A [[Remnant]]==
*She was assassinated but each of her leaves held memory, and their spirits reunited, so she is a [[Remnant]] really. Hence her moniker The Remnant Monarch.
*see [[Sacred Beasts]] for info on sacred trees. Also see [[Sacred Arts]].

===Her Death and Rebirth===

''Emriss Silentborn was born a tree. The men’hla tree is famous for its utility in Soulsmithing. Each of its leaves produces a separate Remnant, leading to an almost endless supply of dead matter. It takes extraordinary circumstances for such a tree to attain sentience, and Emriss is the result of such a twist of fate. When she advanced to Underlord, she took the form of a young woman, using her control over vast networks of dream madra to voraciously learn and spread that knowledge as widely as possible....As she began gathering support for a global portal network, to bring the various continents closer together, three rival Monarchs joined forces and had her assassinated. Free, unlimited knowledge is a threat to those who hoard secrets. But death did not stop her. The Remnants that fell from her leaves spread far and wide, defying all attempts to hunt her spirit down. Over time, they joined together and re-formed, but her memories were fragmented and her sense of identity almost entirely broken. Fortunately for her, she had spent her life leaving memories all around the world. With her rebirth came wisdom. While her purpose never changed, her methods did. She is now more subtle, and the other Monarchs consider her both generous and harmless.'' (Wintersteel, ch 7)

==Descriptions==
Sometimes she's a human with brown, bark-like skin, herbal scented.
Lindon had only seen Emriss Silentborn in the form of a giant tree, but he recognized her immediately. Her skin was dark, like most of her competitors in the tournament, but hers had the consistency of bark. Her hair was made of luminous blue-green vines braided together, and she carried a staff with a blooming diamond flower at the tip. She wore a look of great sadness, and Lindon couldn’t tell if something had happened or if this was how she always appeared.. . . Emriss Silentborn extended her diamond-flower staff, which exuded a peaceful blue-and-pink light. It suffused everything, and Lindon found his thoughts and his madra growing calm as she began to speak. (Wintersteel chapter 1)

===As a tree===

''Her body, that of a blue-green tree big enough to brush the sky, trembled at what she felt approaching their world. Each of her leaves, each set with a functioning eye, shook as they stared into spectrums no human could see. Something was coming.''(Reaper, ch 25)

==Personality==
*Goal oriented, long-range planner, collaborative, community-oriented
*Believes in information sharing on a global scale. (the wiki queen)
*Has a soothing spirit.
*Is kindhearted and wise. Caring and giving. Generous.
**But shrewd — keeps the [[Silent King]] warded in her forest
*She spends her life traveling around gifting people with language.
*She drops her leaves everywhere, so she can learn from them, because they each have an eye and a memory
*At the [[18th Uncrowned King Tournament]] she gave [[Ziel]] a pill, to help his mangled spirit

==Her Kingdom==
'''Emriss Silentborn''' — Queen of the Everwood Continent and Monarch of Titan’s Grove. The Remnant Monarch. The Memory of the World.
*Dreadnaught City

[He's from Dreadnought City,] Dross said, for some reason whispering as though his mental voice might be enough to break the stalemate. [Everwood continent, fighting for Emriss Silentborn. They do strange things with Remnants over there.] ([[Uncrowned]])

==Her Herald==
* Chryleia - Created healing elixir for [[Ziel]]

''Emriss Silentborn’s voice was rich, motherly, and relaxed. “My Herald Chryleia refined this herself, from fruits and flowers gathered throughout the world as well as a drop of my own sap.” ''

==Her Path==
Path: Ten Thousand Dreams. While the Path of Ten Thousand Dreams is not particularly suited to combat, its power is nonetheless undeniable. Sacred artists have shared dreams since antiquity, but Emriss developed the ability to accurately share memories, leading to the development and widespread adoption of dream tablets. This Path involves sharing thoughts widely, coordinating entire armies of sacred arts at once. (Wintersteel ch 7)

* Using her Path, she invented dream tablets, and the Dreamway. (Wintersteel ch 7) but some readers suggest she didn’t invent the dream tablets, but rather only refined them, since [[Ozmanthus Arelius]] had left dream tablets behind, several thousand years ago (roughly four or five thousand years ago)

==Warding a Dreadgod==

Emriss Silentborn had earned her title for two reasons. First, she had a long history with the Dreadgod known as the Silent King. Second, trees were notoriously quiet. She was used to reading meaning in silence.(Reaper, ch 25)

The [[Dreadgod]] the [[Silent King]] (white tiger) lives on her Everwood continent. He is bound there, contained by her roots and her script circle, which is powered by her madra. He seeks revenge on Emriss Silentborn, and to spread his peace throughout the world. (Reaper, ch 23)

Deep in the jungles of the Everwood Continent, the Silent King crouched in its den. Unlike its siblings, the King had never lost use of its mental faculties. It would have been impossible to control dream madra otherwise. It was its body that had suffered. It had never carried as much devastating destructive power as the others, and was only as big as one of these human houses.. .
The Silent King’s mind was rarely focused on its own body. Even now, it tended to its mental web. Its subjects filled the jungle for hundreds of miles. They lived in cities, talked, joked, created art. Remnants crept by newborn sacred beasts and both traded respectful nods. Neither should be as intelligent or aware as they were, but thanks to their King, they could live up to their full domain. In these lands, there was true peace. But this was as far as its domain would ever extend. The thought filled it with fury. . .(Reaper, ch 23)

{{Cradle NavBox}}
The Blackflame Empire is a relatively small chunk of territory located on the northwestern edge of the vast Ashwind Continent. Blackflame Emperor [[Naru Huan]] serves as vassal to the far more powerful [[Akura Malice]], a Monarch in control of Western Ashwind Continent. The dragon-boy [[Seshethkunaaz]] is a Monarch in control of all of Eastern Ashwind Continent. Akura and Dragon are deadly enemies.

==History==
'''See [[Historic Blackflame Empire]] for a history lesson from the author, in Will’s own words.''' This covers the ancient and mysterious age of the black dragons and the sad story of the original House of Black Flame, who are no more. Also see [[Blackflame Family]]

===Rise of House Naru===
Fifty years ago, the Blackflame emperor’s stewards, the loyal Naru clan, took up the position of leadership, replacing the dying Blackflame clan, riddled with insanity from incompatible madra. They became the face of the Blackflame empire, with their loyal reputation and shining emerald wings, but they did not practice the unstable [[Path of Black Flame]], and the people grew to trust them. Then House Naru quietly ascended the imperial throne. The first Naru ruler, the Empress, has since retired into private seclusion. The present emperor is her son, [[Naru Huan]], Overlord

==The Emperor==
The current Blackflame ruler is Emperor Naru Huan, an Overlord. He is the highest ranking sacred artist in the realm. For now...

For more information about the emperor himself, see ''' [[Naru Huan|Naru Huan]]'''

==Map==
This map of the Empire and borderlands is fan-made. It shows approximate locations, based on a careful reading of the ten books. Some locations are certain, such as Sky’s Edge being directly west of [[Sacred Valley]], and the Desolate Wilds directly east of Sacred Valley. The map is simplified, interpretive and liable to change with new information. (Soup)
[[File:Blackflame Empire on Ashwind Continent.png|center|600px|Blackflame Empire on Ashwind Continent. Simplified. Interpretive.]]

==Skysworn==
The Empire is defended by the [[Skysworn (Organization)|Skysworn]], an elite imperial security organization. The commander is Captain [[Naru Gwei|Naru Gwei.]] Headquarters are located in Starsweep Tower on Stormrock, a mobile cloud fortress/city.

==Sacred Valley==
{{Quote Box|title=Jai Chen|quote= “We're going to the very outskirts of imperial territory,” she said...

“People there have forgotten about the Empire.” |source=-Skysworn, ch 9|align=right}}
Not really part of the Blackflame Empire, this mysterious valley rubs right up to its western border. See [[Sacred Valley|map of Sacred Valley]]. It’s the land that time forgot. Some call it cursed. Owned and tightly controlled by Monarch [[Akura Malice]]. Restricted. A forbidden valley. No trespassing. . . And the practice of sacred arts does not work so well here.

==Inside the Empire==
{{Quote Box|title=Black Dragon Days|quote= Serpent’s Grave was a city built from ancient, giant dragon bones.
Almost every building was either carved into a towering rib,
supported by yellowed fangs, or resting inside a skull|source=-[[Reaper]]|align=left}}

Serpent's Grave -- Original capital city when the Royal [[Blackflame Family]] ruled. Location of Blackflame Training and Trial Grounds. Built on ancient dragon bones. According to [[Eithan Arelius]], there is an entrance to the Labyrinth here. [[House Arelius]] has a janitorial hub here —- they keep the city clean.

⭐️'''Blackflame City''' - Current imperial capital city, head of government led by Emperor [[Naru Huan]]:

"The capital of the Blackflame Empire was surrounded by sharp, jagged walls of fractured obsidian so large that he wondered if they classified as mountains. Smaller gates had been carved through the walls all around, but the main gates rose as high as the walls themselves. Each gate was flanked by a towering statue in the same black stone: one, an Emperor with a crown and a long tail. He balanced a carved flame on one extended palm. This long-past Emperor stood facing his counterpart, an Empress with a similar crown and long tail, an identical flame on her palm as well...The Imperial Capital might have been the size of the entire Sacred Valley." (Underlord)

'''Stormrock''' -- Floating cloud fortress as big as a city, with '''Starsweep Tower, Headquarters of the [[Skysworn (Organization)|Skysworn Organization]]'''

'''Sea Wall''' -- Defending the empire's Northern coast from invaders on the Trackless Sea. Home of Underlord Kotai Shou, a sea captain, and the Kotai clan, who have gray skin and bond with fish 🔱

'''Lastleaf Fortress''' -- in Southern Jungles, where special plants/trees are grown and harvested and elixirs are made at a sacred arts school (see [[Skysworn]])

'''Southern Jungles''' -- problematic border with Seishen Kingdom, many uprisings

'''Desolate Wilds''' -- Out west. Minor clans, criminals, refugees, and exiles. Land is mostly desert running up against western wall of mountains and hills. Poisonous rivers, deformed black twisted trees, scores and scores of dreadbeasts.

Key places in the Desolate Wilds:

*Pure Lake -- only good water for miles

*Transcendent Ruins -- a section of the immense underground labyrinth suddenly arose in the Wilderness

*Refuge -- shanty-town. Flooded by refugees from Dreadgod Titan attack (see Bloodline, Reaper)

==Borders==
'''To the west''', on the Western Sea near the Trackless Sea, lies the Akura-owned Sky's Edge community, where the rare mineral Wintersteel is mined. Also to the West, [[Sacred Valley]] lies forgotten and strictly restricted and forbidden, surrounded by mountains, sea, and desert.

'''To the east,''' the Wasteland acts as a buffer between Blackflame/Akura lands and the hostile [[Seshethkunaaz|dragon realm]]. The dragon realm covers the entire eastern half of the Ashwind continent. [[Ziel of the Wastelands|Ziel]] helps the [[Beast King]] defend Wasteland villages from vicious dragon raids.

'''To the south,''' beyond the jungles, the Seishen King covets Blackflame lands.

'''Further south,''' the Akura homelands. Te Monarch reigns as overlord to Blackflame and Seishen vassals, and numerous other factions, schools, and communities. The capital city is Moongrave. Path training and combat trials take place at the Night Wheel Valley. Akura holds control over the western half of the Ashwind continent. The monarch [[Akura Malice]] and the dragon monarch [[Seshethkunaaz]] have been deadly rivals for centuries.

'''To the north,''' [[Northstrider]] hunts dragons in the largest ocean, the Trackless Sea. He discovered an underwater gate into the great labyrinth here. Also, his pocket world [[Ghostwater (Pocket World)|Ghostwater]] was located somewhere in the vast Trackless Sea.

==Blackflame Ranking==
In the Blackflame Empire, every sacred artist and every service provider is constantly ranked. Ranking changes as sacred artists advance, regress, or die. The ranking is made public. Underlord ranking is especially important. The [[Naru Huan|emperor]] [[Naru Huan]] is an Overlord -- the only one -- so he's not ranked with Underlords

'''Top Underlords, ranked in book 4, Skysworn:'''

#Honored Chon Ma -- "the number-one Underlord in the Blackflame Empire. He was the head of the Cloud Hammer School, and the dark cloud hanging over his head seemed to indicate the Underlord's perpetual mood. The bearded man scowled, folding his arms and revealing the hammers he wore at each hip."
#[[Naru Gwei]] -- ranked Underlord number two. Captain of the [[Skysworn (Organization)|Skysworn]]. The emperor’s uncle.
#Underlord Kotai Shou -- the third-ranked Underlord. “Shou was a grizzled old sea captain with his head shaved except for a dangling gray braid in front of each ear. He had storm-gray skin, and he had lost his left arm in battle as a child, replacing it with the limb of a massive stone-madra Remnant" (Skysworn). Kotai Clan artists have grey skin and contract with a fish spirit
#[[Naru Saeya]] -- youngest Underlord in the empire until Eithan arrived. Peacock feathers behind an ear. The Emperor's little sister was tall and strikingly beautiful...but quick to action, like a bull.
#unclear
#Li Min Redflower -- Jade Eye School. An older Underlady. The best Healer in the empire.
#[[Eithan Arelius]] -- (he had recently been ranked eleven, until the death of Jai Daishou)

'''Wei Shi Kelsa''' was born in [[Sacred Valley]] into the Wei clan, the Shi family. She is the sister of [[Wei Shi Lindon Arelius|Wei Shi Lindon]], who is the protagonist of the story. In book 1, [[Unsouled]], she is an Iron on the Path of the White Fox.

==Appearance==
Kelsa is as tall as Lindon, but does not share his intimidating appearance. She is lithe and graceful, with black hair. She always looks focused and attentive.

==Personality==
Kelsa is hardworking, honorable, and considered the pride of her family. She displays more care for her brother, Lindon, than most, including his parents.

==Book Bios==

===Unsouled===
Kelsa lives in the Wei clan along with the rest of the Shi family as a Copper on the Path of the White Fox. After Lindon returns with a sacred orus fruit, a spirit-fruit from an ancestral tree, the family argues for Kelsa to receive the whole fruit in order to advance her quickly to Iron in time for an upcoming tournament with the other clans of Sacred Valley. Kelsa instead divides the fruit in half, giving the other half to Lindon.

Days later, before the tournament, Kelsa advances to Iron while sparring with Lindon.

===Underlord===
It is revealed that Kelsa survived the destruction of the Wei clan. She is on the run, either by herself, or with a number of Wei clan survivors. She has been stealing food from the Heaven's Glory and Fallen Leaf Schools in order to survive.

While on the run from several hostile Irons, Kelsa encounters [[Orthos]], who reveals that her brother is alive. Orthos then protects Kelsa from the pursuing Irons. Kelsa takes care of her blinded father, [[Wei Shi Jaran]], and seeks her mother [[Wei Shi Seisha]], who is hostage to the Heaven’s Glory School.

===Uncrowned===
Kelsa leads Orthos to where she and other exiles are hiding. Orthos tells her about Lindon's survival and she is surprised but happy. She introduces him to her father, Wei Shi Jaran, who is blind. Orthos then tells her Lindon's story.

===Wintersteel===
Orthos has retrained Kelsa, this time with a perfect Iron body (Skyhunter) and raised her to Jade. She is eager to go save her mother from Heaven's Glory, but Orthos is more hesitant. They then sense the Wandering Titan's awakening.

===Reaper===
She advances to Lowgold and acquires a goldsign — a foxtail of purple-white foxfire . She shows romantic interest in [[Jai Long]] and helps organize the Sect of Twin Stars.

==Chen’s Childhood==
Chen was born with a promising future into the then-prominent Jai Clan, highly ranked in the [[Blackflame Empire]]. However, she was largely ignored after suffering a seemingly incurable injury to her madra channels when she was attacked in bed at only six years old. She is the younger sister of [[Jai Long]], who is eight years older than her. Because of his own sudden facial deformation, incurred during the same attack that injured his little sister, he was exiled to the Desolate Wilds, despite his promise and ability. Still a child, Jai Chen went “out west” along with her big brother, because he wanted to care for her and seek treatment for her. They found a home with the [[Sandviper Gokren|Sandviper]] sect in the Desolate Wilds, a desert, with twisted black trees and numerous dreadbeasts. They sought the powerful Ancestor’s Spear in the ancient Labyrinth — the Transcendent Ruins. She lived in the desert for about 8 years, roughly. Then she went East with her brother to Serpent’s Grave.

==Age & Appearance==
Jai Chen is roughly the same age as [[Wei Shi Lindon Arelius]] (Skysworn, ch 4). She’s a young teenage girl in book 2 [[Soulsmith]], about 14 years old. By book 10, she’s probably about 19.

{{Quote Box|title=Jai Chen|quote=''"About his age, she was small and pale, with
soft black hair that tumbled down past her
shoulders. She was dressed in powder-blue robes|source=-Skysworn, ch. 4|align=left}}

{{Quote Box|title=Soft|quote=''"She was a small woman...
and she looked...soft.
In every sense of the word.
Eyes, skin, hair, hands, demeanor.
Soft. But...soft didn’t always mean weak."''|source=-Bloodline|align=left}}

==Character==
Warm-hearted, loyal, trusting, patient, determined, brave, long-suffering, yet still able to giggle at the absurd. Strong. Picked up the broken Ancestors Spear and used it to kill her enemy ([[Skysworn]])

==Injuries==
When she was six years old, Jai Chen suffered from a crippling disability (mangled madra channels) as the result of an attack by a remnant. She went to the Desolate Wilds with her brother [[Jai Long]], who was only fourteen. He searched for a way to gain power and to heal her. She was healed by [[Wei Shi Lindon Arelius]] and [[Little Blue]] and seems to have unique, possibly living madra due to the remnant attack and subsequent events.

==Path==
Unclear. As a child, she would probably have been just Foundational following the Jai Clan sacred arts -- the [[Path of the Stellar Spear]]. However, that ended when she was injured. She did accidentally gain a touch of the famous Aurelius [[Bloodline Abilities]] (perception, to see) and some of Lindon's pure madra when she used the Ancestors Spear to kill her enemy while he was holding The Archstone -- a forbidden relic that had absorbed madra from the surrounding people (see [[Skysworn]], also see [[Bloodline]]).

*Eithan examines her, after she was exposed to the Archstone:

Eithan ran his spiritual sense through her soul. Thanks to Sylvan Riverseed's touch, her madra channels had been rebalanced, cleansed, and purified. Without that, she would have lost control of her madra and died already. As it was, she was just barely holding on. A sack stuffed to capacity and coming apart at the seams, but not in danger of bursting. “Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do for her,” Eithan said, and Jai Long's twisted face began to fall behind his mask. “...but fortunately, there's also no need. She will survive this. And her core will be filled with quite unique madra, so that's a treat. You were quite lucky that Lindon and I were here, and that Lindon's Blackflame core was empty, otherwise the madra would have reached a critical imbalance. As it is, none of our madra conflicted too badly with each other. They will blend together in her.” She would also gain some measure of the Arelius bloodline ability, though she would have to expend madra to use it, while Eithan's happened naturally. She really had ended up in quite a unique situation, and he looked forward to seeing how she handled it. “She will have difficulty controlling her madra for a while,” he continued. “But then...well, she has a unique Path ahead of her.” ([[Skysworn]])

Later in the series, in book 10, Lindon gives Jai Chen advice on cycling. Excerpt:

“Jai Chen, you’ve been focusing on using your techniques with your contracted spirit as a medium. You don’t have to do that; not all your madra is taken up by him anymore. I’ll give you four basic techniques you can work on, and you can refine them on your own, but for now start cycling your madra separately from your dragon.” ([[Reaper]])

She advances to Lowgold in book 10. She has no goldsign (but neither does Eithan or Lindon). She has some of Eithan's [[Bloodline Abilities]], the ability to stretch out her madra to see.

"Jai Chen gave a sharp gasp, and he immediately stretched his perception out to her. Even with the support of the sect, she’d had a difficult time reaching Lowgold. There weren’t any Remnants with her unique blend of aspects, not to mention any appropriate scales. But since she had, her detection web had become easier to use and far more efficient." ([[Reaper]])

==Fingerling==
Sometime after Lindon healed her, Jai Chen bonded / contracted with a tiny ferocious pink dragon-spirit. It seems to have come from her own living madra. Fingerling can see up to a mile away and its madra dissolves enemies. This dragon-spirit first appears in book 4, [[Skysworn]], during Lindon's duel with Jai Long.

===Fingerling: Description===

‘He spun his spear around, looking for the creature that had gotten behind him, only to see his sister holding a dragon by its tail. A serpentine dragon roared, surging from the space between her hands. It was like one of his snakes, only far more detailed: he could see a pair of whiskers on its face and scales on its body. It was tinged pink, like the light of dawn, and it raged into the bloody creatures with a majestic cry. They were splattered across the floor with the sheer momentum of its charge. Awed, Jai Long extended his spiritual perception. The substance of this creature felt like nothing he'd ever seen before. It was something like his own madra, corrupted by that Remnant long ago, which explained life in a creature that wasn't a Remnant. But at the same time, it was also...refined, in a way he couldn't describe. Like Jai Long's power had been boiled down, purified, perfected, and then strengthened. And there were elements that reminded him of a storm. It was a confusing, overwhelming mass of impressions, and he couldn't make sense of them before the dragon burst in a massive flash of essence, dissolving almost instantly. “I did it,” Jai Chen said, her smile broad. Then she collapsed.’([[Skysworn]], ch 9)

===Fingerling’s Madra===
‘Jai Chen directed Fingerling, who breathed his strange pink madra over a bloodspawn that looked like it had been made from scarlet scissors strapped together to walk like a man. Fingerling’s breath didn’t behave like fire, or even fire madra, but like a dense cloud that passed over the jagged spawn and dissolved it.’([[Bloodline]])

===Fingerling’s Name===
“You’ve cared for your bonded spirit well,” Eithan observed. “Have you named it?”

“We call him Fingerling,” Jai Chen said, looking a little sheepish. “He started off the size of a finger, and he loves eating small fish. It started as a nickname, but then it just.. .stuck.” The pink, serpentine dragon trilled proudly at the sound of his name. ([[Bloodline]])

==Sect of Twin Stars==
Eventually, Archlord [[Ozmanthus Arelius|Eithan Arelius]] invites Jai Chen to help organize the new Twin Star Sect, a group that follows Sage [[Wei Shi Lindon]] of the [[Path of Twin Stars]]. Working with [[Wei Shi Kelsa]], she recruits new members and manages the sect. The sect sprang to life in the Desolate Wilds shantytown of Refuge and continued in Serpent’s Grave. ([[Bloodline]] and [[Reaper]])

‘His sister, Jai Chen, wore a set of sacred artists robes trimmed in blue and burnt orange: the colors of the Twin Star sect. She wore the emblem proudly over her heart, and she moved as though it gave her endless energy. She bounced into the room beaming, and even her companion spirit danced around in midair as though he’d inherited the mood. Fingerling was a serpentine, finger-sized pink dragon that was the manifestation of Jai Chen’s power.’ ([[Reaper]])

==Youthful Exile==
Jai Long was born with a promising future into the then-prominent Jai Clan, highly ranked in the [[Blackflame Empire]]. However, he was attacked at age 14, along with his little sister [[Jai Chen]], only six years old. Both of the Jai siblings were injured badly. Because of his own sudden facial deformation, incurred during the same attack that injured his little sister, he was exiled to the Desolate Wilds, despite his promise and ability. Still a child, little Jai Chen went “out west” with her big brother, because he wanted to care for her and seek treatment for her.

==Desolate Wilds==
In the Desolate Wilds, young Jai Long found a friend and a home in [[Sandviper Gokren]], the chief of his sect in the Desolate Wilds. For roughly eight years, the Jai siblings lived among the Sandvipers in the Wilds — a desert, with twisted black trees and numerous dreadbeasts. When opportunity arose, Jai Long and the Sandvipers sought the powerful Ancestor’s Spear in the ancient Labyrinth — the Transcendent Ruins. He was determined to care for his sister and to wreak vengeance on his unfaithful clan, especially on the Patriarch, Underlord [[Jai Daishou]].

==Age==
Jai Long was 14 when he was attacked and then exiled because his face was disfigured. He is eight years older than his sister [[Jai Chen]]. By the time of book 2, [[Soulsmith]], he might be about 22-23. By book 10, [[Reaper]], he would probably be about 28ish.

"Jai Long had met the man before; he was early in his second decade and had already reached Highgold, which made him a peer with Kral and Jai Long." (Soulsmith)

Jai Long stopped his friend with a hand. “What is your name, elder brother?” 'Elder' brother might have been a bit much, in Eithan's opinion. Surely he didn't look much older than Jai Long himself did. But it was an expression of respect around here, so he smiled. “They call me Eithan.” (Soulsmith)

==Appearance==
Jai Long is slim and wiry. "He was roughly as tall as Lindon, but thinner, so that his build matched that of his spear" (Soulsmith)

Disfigured face: Jai Long has his head wrapped in scripted red cloth because his face is scarred to resemble a snake, as the result of a gold sign given to him by a remnant from a twisted version of the [[Path of the Stellar Spear]]. The gold sign is a hideous face. Jai Long does not like to think about it or deal with people’s horrified reactions so he covers it with red bandages.

Manic laughter: "His voice hadn’t changed, but his laugh. . .It rang out of him, wild and crazy, like the cackling of a deranged murderer. His usual voice was cool and composed, but when he laughed, he sounded like a blood-drunk killer.'' (Soulsmith)''

He covers his face with scripted red cloths.
{{Quote
| He resisted lifting a hand to feel the strips of cloth wrapped around his head. The cloth was red, wrapped so tightly around him that not a hair or scrap of skin was visible from the neck up. Only his eyes peeked out of the middle, and if he could have covered those up without losing his vision, he would have. | Soulsmith (Cradle Book 2), Location 1048}}

==Personality==
Jai Long is hardworking, thoughtful, careful, determined, protective, and loyal. He can also be driven and vengeful, yet also grateful, forgiving, and merciful. Because his Jai family proved utterly faithless and fickle, he is slow to trust and quite cynical. He is learning to forgive and trust Lindon.

==Path & Injury==
In his youth, Jai Long’s affinity with the Path of the Stellar Spear was second only to the clan’s Patriarch, an aged Underlord named Jai Daishou. Recognizing his potential and seeing the need to raise up a second Underlord as an heir to the aging Patriarch, Jai clan elders stalled Jai Long’s advancement at Jade until a suitable Remnant from the Path of the Stellar Spear became available. Ideally, a Jai clan elder would die and Jai Long would draw the sacred artist’s Remnant into his core, processing the power and advancing to Lowgold.

However, after an attack on the Jai head family by a group of rebels practicing a warped version of the Path of the Stellar Spear, Jai Long was forced to capture and process the twisted Remnant of a defeated rebel Lowgold to protect his sister, [[Jai Chen]]. Jai Long easily broke through to Lowgold aided by the power of the processed Remnant, but had deviated from the Path of the Stellar Spear in doing so. Jai Long was marked with a Goldsign that twisted and scarred his face and the unusual ability to imbue Forged madra with temporary life, specializing in Forged snakes.
{{Quote |Imbuing Forged madra with temporary life is an advanced technique, far beyond Jai Long. He can only produce this result because he absorbed a Remnant from a Path we’ll call.. .unnatural. Jai clan elders were horrified by Jai Long’s monstrous transformation; the next clan Patriarch could not have deviated from the Path of the Stellar Spear, and his face could not be hideous. A fallen star, Jai Long and his sister were quietly shipped away to the Desolate Wilds to support one of the Jai clan’s oldest allies, the Sandviper sect, where they could benefit the clan without bringing further shame. | Eithan Arelius, [[Blackflame]] Cradle Book 3, Location 1791}}

==Duel with Lindon==
In the Desolate Wilds, Jai Long swore to duel [[Lindon]] for killing his friend, Sandviper Kral. A year later, Long is a Truegold in Serpent’s Grave. Jai Long and Truegold [[Sandviper Gokren]], Karl’s father, first confront Lindon in the Serpent’s Grave training grounds. During this battle, Lindon and Orthos kill Gokren, while [[Yerin]] duels Jai Long, and meanwhile, simultaneously, Lindon advances to Lowgold. (see [[Blackflame]]).

Later, in the official duel refereed by [[Naru Gwei]], Jai Long overwhelms Lindon. However, in gratitude for healing his sister [[Jai Chen]], Long attempts to call the duel finished when Lindon is down. However, his Patriarch [[Jai Daishou]] forces him to continue, so he cuts off Lindon’s arm at the elbow. (Skysworn)
==Retreat West==
After the duel, the Emperor censures the entire Jai clan, because Patriarch Jai Daishou opened the western Labyrinth — which can attract Dreadgods and is off-limits. He also illegally retrieved and employed the Archstone, a restricted ancient weapon. Jai Long and his sister head west, towards the Desolate Wilds and beyond to [[Sacred Valley]]. Eventually, they meet Lindon’s sister, [[Wei Shi Kelsa]], and [[Orthos]]

==Advancing to Underlord==
In book 10 [[Reaper]], Jai Long accepts some advice and sacred treasures from Lindon. Some months later, with battle raging all around his camp, he accidentally comes upon his own personal Underlord Revelation, and soulfire renews him. He emerges from the transformation. . .unknown. . .to be determined.

==Description==
The desolate Wilds consists of wastelands and forest with corrupted trees and poisoned waters, which spans across the western edge of the [[Blackflame Empire]], ending with the mountain ranges that hide [[Sacred Valley]]

It took [[Wei Shi Lindon Arelius|Lindon]] and [[Yerin Arelius|Yerin]] weeks to cross on a [[Thousand Mile Cloud]] and [[Sky's Mercy]], so it presumed to be fairly large.

==History==
Almost a thousand years ago, the Desolate Wilds were totally lawless, plagued by beasts and by wild sacred artists no better than animals themselves. Each man considered himself an Emperor, each woman an Empress, and they ruled whatever they could take at the end of a blade. But one day a woman emerged from nowhere with a shining spear in her hands. She united these rogue sacred artists under one name, killing those who resisted, and spreading law and civilization across the Wilds. For the next two centuries, while she lived, all the Wilds remained peaceful under her rule.

==Inhabitants==
The Desolate Wilds hosts a large population of [[Dreadbeasts]]. Humans live in sects out in the wastelands. Among these sects Five major tribes formed an alliance by the name of Five Factions Alliance. The alliance consists of : [[Jai Clan]], [[Fisher Sect]], Cloud Hammer Sect, [[Sandviper Sect]] and an Unknown faction.

There are only handful of [[Truegold (Advancement)|Truegolds]] and only one [[Underlord (Advancement)|Underlord]] in Desolate Wilds.
==Will Wight==
'''[[Will Wight]]''' lives in Florida, among the citrus fruits and slithering sea creatures. He's the author of the Amazon best-selling ''Traveler’s Gate Trilogy'', ''The Elder Empire'' (which cleverly offers twice the fun and twice the work), and his newest series of mythical martial arts magic: ''Cradle''.

He graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2013, earning a Master’s of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and a flute of dragon’s bone. He is also, apparently, invisible to cameras.

==Description==
'''Ach'magut The Overseer''' is one of the [[Elders|Great Elders]] in the [[Elder Empire]] series. Ach'magut is described as a "''writhing, pulsing, squirming mass of limbs, eyes, tendrils, ears, and appendages without name and without number.''"

==Personality==
As a Great Elder Ach'magut does not have a personality that can be compared to humankind, however like all the Great Elders, Ach'magut does posses a set of goals:

#To be free of the prison world [[Asylum]]
#To seek knowledge above everything, at any cost

Because of this Ach'magut does not necessarily want the malicious destruction of humankind. [[Emperor|The Emperor]] actually learned [[Reading]] in [[Ach'magut's Library]] and organizations such as [[The Sleepless]] view him, along with [[Kelarac]], as one of the best hopes for human and non-human interaction. However, above everything else Ach'magut simply wants to learn and then to move on. Whether humans survive or not is completely irrelevant.

The Emperor also describes him in the following: "''In a way, the human world is his creation more than my own. He spared my life, gave me the education I needed to advance Reading and build an empire. He's not a destroyer, he's a parasite. He leaches onto a world until he's learned everything he can, and then he moves on. But he's not above taking something apart to see how it works.''"

He as also been known to allow deviations from his plans as long as it means that he can learn more from the deviation.

==Powers & Abilities==
Ach'magut possesses all the powers and abilities that are common of the Great Elders. This includes an absolute mastery of [[Intent]] and a presence that could easily corrupt the minds of humans that go near him, as well as commanding an army of [[Elder Spawn]] to further his goals. However, Ach'mugut's powers are reduced substantially while he is trapped on Asylum. Despite this handicap he is still far beyond the abilities of most humans.

===Near Omniscience===
Ach'magut is a Great Elder with authority over knowledge, as such his intelligence is beyond the humans on Asylum. Even The Emperor himself cannot match Ach'magut in a battle of wits. He has also demonstrated the ability to predict events far in the future as well as concoct plans that span millennia.

===Immortality===
It is virtually impossible to permanently kill a Great Elder such as Ach'magut. His body has been destroyed a few times, but given enough time he will always reform.

===Knowledge Bestowal===
When Ach'magut speaks, the full meaning and nuance of his words is directly sent to the receivers mind. Most of his sentences only span a few words, but each word essentially has the meaning of an entire speech.

==Quotes==

''"CHANGE COMES FROM DEVIATION. UNDERSTANDING COMES FROM CHANGE. DEVIANCE CANNOT BE PREDICTED"''

''"I AM NOT THARLOS. WHAT I WANT IS NOT CHANGE FOR ITS OWN SAKE. I WANT THE FUTURE."''

''"HAIL THE EMPEROR OF THE WORLD."''

Here are some more things you can do:

*'''Building up''': Check out the [[:Category:Stubs|Stubs]]; articles that have not received substantial attention from other editors and do not have a sufficient amount of information and/or references can be a great place to start.
*'''Expand and Improve''': Many articles can be expanded and improved upon. You could roam the wiki looking for topics you are familiar with that are too vague, missing information, or need re-wording of sentences and paragraphs so that they are more understandable. If you notice information that is missing from an article, add it.

If you want to discuss anything specific to an article, you can use the Discussion page for that article.
==Style Guides and Editing Help==

===Style Guide for "Books" pages===
Book pages should have at least three sections.

'''From the back cover:''' Word for word the back cover blurb. Left justified, in italics. This needs an attribution, as it is a quote.

'''Summary''': A summary of the book. This should include any major plot points of the book. It is tempting to include everything, but try to keep it to major plot points or things that will be significant for future books. Use sub-heading 2 format for any subheadings you may need. This should be left aligned, with a single line between paragraphs. Do not indent the first line. Short quotes should be left in the text. Longer quotes should use block quote formatting.

'''Characters:''' Include any major or secondary characters, as well as any characters that may be significant in past or future books. Focus on new information about that character from the book being discussed. Add the Character template info box to provide a summary of basic information.

'''Other categories:''' Include other categories if needed, including items, locations or Paths. Focus on information that was new that book, and that is significant. Remember there will be other areas that focus on these categories, so use these if it is needed for understanding the book.

'''General notes:''' If more detailed information is available elsewhere, link to it the first time it is mentioned. Subsequent mentions do not need to be linked. Spoilers are to be expected, but use your judgement for significant spoilers. All series related pages should start with their relevant navbox, e.g. (Cradle navbox on Cradle pages, EE navbox on EE pages)

The following page contains examples of templates to be used on various pages to help with organization and style.
[[Test page|test page]]

===Using Quotes===
To keep things looking uniform, please use the Quote Template when adding quotes to pages. In source editor, it will look like this:

<nowiki>{{Quote</nowiki>

| quote: this is where the quote text goes
| speaker: John Smith
| source: Welcome

<nowiki>}}</nowiki>

this will result in quote text like this:

{{Quote|quote=this is where the quote text goes|speaker=John Smith|source=Welcome}}

If you have a multiple line quote, separate the lines with a line break: like this <nowiki>
</nowiki>, this will allow the italic formatting to hold for the entire paragraph of the quote, instead of only the first line.

for example. a quote like this:

{{Quote
|quote= first line of text

second line of text

third line of text
|speaker= John Smith
|source=Welcome
}}

This would look like this:

<nowiki>{{ Quote</nowiki>

<nowiki>|</nowiki> quote: first line of text <nowiki>
</nowiki> <nowiki>
</nowiki>second line of text <nowiki>
</nowiki> <nowiki>
</nowiki>third line of text
| speaker: John Smith
| source: Welcome

<nowiki>}}</nowiki>

'''Ziel of the Wasteland''' is a man under the [[Beast King]]'s protection who is a Truegold or Underlord in power due to his shattered spirit, but was an Archlord before the damage.

==Appearance==
Ziel has two upward-curving emerald horns, they’re luminous lime green at the base and they run up the gradient to the points, which are dark green. Ziel is described as looking older than he actually is because of how he carries himself. He has bloodshot, half-lidded eyes and a tired looking, weary, and worn expression. Ziel wears a grey cloak that is stained and dirty that had once been a emblem dyed into the back that could have been a lotus flower or a web. He is also often quite close to his massive warhammer that he has to drag around: its haft is as long as he is tall, its head the width of his body. He has shoulder-length, slightly curly/shaggy black hair. Because of the way sacred arts progression works and his Archlord body, he looks like a 18-year-old despite being 35 having had his body re-forged in <nowiki>[[Soulfire]]</nowiki> thrice.

==History==
Ziel of the Wasteland used to be known as the leader of the Dawnwing sect and a genius when it came to the sacred arts. This can been seen by the fact that his body looks no older than 18 despite having once been an Archlord, and that he was a competitor in both recent Uncrowned tournaments. At a certain point after the Weeping Dragon moved past the land, Ziel and his sect were attacked by the Weeping Dragon's servants and in a failed attempt to rescue his apprentices he fought and lost to the Weeping Dragon cult's Sage. His soul was then torn apart and stuck back together completely wrong, leaving him weakened to the level of a Truegold or an Underlord (While there is usually a clear distinction between the two, Ziel has qualified for both the [[Ghostwater (Pocket World)|Ghostwater]] visit and the [[Uncrowned King Tournament]], so his power level is unclear).

{{Cradle NavBox}}{{Cradle Character|Name=Suriel|image=Suriel.jpg|Rank=Judge 006 - Phoenix Division|Faction=Abidan|First Appearance=Unsouled|Origin=Sector 13}}

The power of the Phoenix is the power of restoration. An [[Abidan]] of the Phoenix Division can use the Way to return order to a system, restoring it to prime condition. Phoenixes are used as mechanics and engineers as often as healers, and are prized on any battlefield.

Though skilled Phoenix Abidan are rare, and their division small, they are also very durable. A Phoenix is said to be the second-most difficult of the [[Abidan]] to destroy (after a Titan), since powerful Phoenixes can regenerate even from total destruction.

The Phoenix herself, Suriel, is the only entity capable of restoring the condition of an entire Iteration at once. This can cause irregularities for both the [[Telariel|Spiders]] and the [[Makiel|Hounds]], so she is required to notify Sector Control prior to temporal reversion.

==Appearance==
Transparent gray ghostlines ran from the back of her head, twisting down her right arm to terminate in her fingers. The Mantle of Suriel ran behind her like she’d tied a river of burning light around her neck. Her white uniform was seamless, a layer of inch-thick liquid armor that coated her from her neck down to her toes. It seemed like Forged madra, which was close enough to the truth.
