 In this life, Varic was running from both the corporations and the Galactic Union, and wanted to become a mercenary pilot{{book ref|tlh3|14}} . He trained under [[Tanner Hall]] who taught him navigational magic and the Cosmic Path, though Varic's magical knowledge would eventually surpass his mentor. When the Iron Legion started to expand, Tanner saw an opportunity for profit, which eventually led to Varic's first time in an Iron Hive alone. He was saved by [[Sola Kalter]], and heard her give a speech to the survivors, convincing them to shoot their way out of the invasion. Inspired by her's dedication against the legion, Varic convinced Tanner to follow Sola after she left, and they began working together. Eventually, the two of them, as well as many others, raided the Grand Hive in a last ditch attempt to take down the [[Iron King]]. Only Varic and Sola managed to reach the Iron King in the end. Varic was killed by the Iron King after he plunged his had into Varic's chest, leaving the universe to be taken over by the [[Iron Legion]].
