The Iron King the head of the hive mind behind the Iron Legion. He is one of the galactic threats Varic Vallenar experienced in his alternative lives.
Appearance
The Iron King is a ten foot tall cyborg, wrapped in chrome armor and no visible skin. His back was connected to multiple long cables, such as wires that charge his cybernetic components, umbilical cords carrying chemicals, mystical streams of light supplying complex workings of Aether. The Iron King’s brain is visibly swollen and contained in a transparent tank within his skull. His brain flickers with light, indicating his thoughts. Embedded in his chest lies a masterwork of Aethertech. It resembles an obsidian cage filled with screaming, swollen, and red mechanical faces. Wires extend from it and connect it into his body.
Biography
The ritual for the Iron Kings birth is interrupted and stopped by Varic Vallenar. Varic would then seal away the Iron King’s body and shoot it into the sun, resulting in its destruction. Despite this, the Iron King doesn't die, his mind and spirit anchored to the Iron Legion by a masterwork of Aethertech created by the previous Iron King. This allows his mind to survive and as an Iron King’s body is easier to make than a mind, his body is recreated.
Interested in the man who killed him, the Iron King accesses the network of the Legion to learn more about Varic, and is the first to learn that Varic has the Last Horizon from the hunter ships that had been chasing them. The Iron King then orders the kidnapping of Benri Vallenar, after his unique magic & connection to Varic. In exchange for his help towards capturing the Last Horizon & achieving galactic domination, the Iron King promises Benri a seat on the Last Horizon.

Abilities
Masterwork of Aethertech: A device embedded in the Iron King's chest. The device was commissioned by the past Iron King four hundred years ago, but he was defeated before its completion. It anchors the latest Iron King's mind and spirit to the Iron Legion, able to recreate the Iron King's consciousness and bind it to a new body. This allows the Iron King to be more closely linked to the Iron Legion than any of his predecessors, giving him the chance to truly be immortal. With this Aethertech the current Iron King is uniquely capable of:
- Resurrection: from any material with major connection to the Iron Legion. The material is consumed to form the Iron King's body. The Iron King has control over the site he is resurrected from[1].
- Consuming material with connection to the Iron Legion to increase the size of his own body[2].
- Magic Immunity: The Iron King is considered by the Aether to be the Iron Legion. Targeting him with a spell will mean targeting the entirety of the Iron Legion across the galaxy, including hives, pawns, and other Legion creations. Spell casting on this scale is impossible.
Magic: The Iron King is a mage. His exact magic remains debated by scholars[2], but it includes the ability to channel, augment, and control the powers of others. This magic allows him to maintain a link to the Iron Legion and allows him to use Benri Vallenar’s Mirror of Silence.
Hivemind: The Iron King has access and control to the vast network that makes up the Iron Legion. This means he has access to information gathered by all Iron Legion creatures and he is able to direct Iron Legion creatures. Combined with his infinitely intelligent brain, this allows the Iron King to strategize and direct countless battles across the galaxy simultaneously.
Pink-Orange Flame: The Iron King uses a pink-orange flame for multiple purposes, including projections (TC Ch 28) or in attacks. The flame is a spell containing Aether-disrupting magic[3], but is not considered a part of the Iron King’s magic. It is likely produced by Aethertech or an enchanted component of his body[4]. The Iron King does not have an infinite supply of the flame[4].
Body Modification: The Iron King can form tendrils made of metal and flesh behind his back, which are capable of doing battle[2]. He can also form weapons on his body.
Psionic Attacks: The Iron King is capable of attacking minds by inserting emotions and/or memories to a victim. This includes inserting peaceful and false memories to convince the victim to find comfort in being a part of the Legion[2].
