Omega, real name Omal Escalon, also known as the Grave Hound, is the provisional Pilot of The Last Horizon. Due to his chaotic nature, he is magically compelled to follow Varic's orders.
Appearance
Despite being at least one hundred fifty years old[1], Omega still looks like he is in his forties. His hair is dark and down to the shoulders. He has a very short patch of beard, and wears a long, billowing black coat. Though his whole body was Aethertech, his left eye appears to have been replaced with a patch of steel fitted with an obvious cybernetic Aethertech prosthetic that shone orange. Cybernetics appear to stretch down beneath his collar. His other eye is orange as well, but appears to be a result of genetic modification. Omega can shapeshift multiple eyes, mouths, and limbs on his body, as well as turn into a dark goop. When low on mass, he can form a miniature version of his human body.
Biography
100 Years Ago
Omega was possibly responsible for the assassination of Telappen Vashei, a past president of the Galactic Union. At some point, he became aware of Solstice’s existence, and grew resentful towards the Galactic Union.
The Escalon Company
Omega was the founder of the Escalon Company. He was possibly behind his own transformation, in attempt to climb up to join the greats. He was responsible for some massacres. Before becoming the Pilot, his family kept him under contract that limits his abilities until he gets permission. Beyond being hired for assassinations, sabotage, and/or general mayhem, Omega spends most of his time playing video games.
As the Pilot of The Last Horizon
Omega became the provisional Pilot of the Last Horizon after accepting a deal with Varic Vallenar to fight the Iron Legion on their side, with the condition that he will be magically compelled to follow orders and not harm the crew. Additionally, his contract is only for three months, after which the crew will take a vote to decide if he will remain pilot. Omega’s request for the Last Horizon was to stop Solstice.
In Varic’s Alternative Lives
Omega has shown up in most of Varic’s lives, and was hired by the Vallenar Corporation in all his lives[2]. Varic never worked with him too closely, nor had he been targeted by Omega until after the ritual. During the life where there was a Galactic Civil War, Omega fought against the Galactic Union, and fought to protect the powerless under certain circumstances[3].
Abities
Shapeshifting: Omega can dissolve his body into dark gray goo. He can also form multiple mouths, eyes, and limbs on his body, and contort his body in impossible manners. Omega has to return to human form eventually, and can not remain as goop forever. His personality may be the key to this ability[4], forcing Omega to keep up a chaotic persona. When his mass is split apart, the severed portion will continue to follow Omega's will until it runs out of energy. He then needs to replace the mass[5]. Omega’s unique body is also the source of his immortality. While he can "die", Omega has stored mass in the subspace that he can use to regenerate himself. His regeneration is limited by the stockpile of available mass his has stored in Subspace.
Internal Subspace Drive: Allows Omega to jump into Subspace. This also allows him to sneak though spells. Like a normal Subspace Drive, jumps in quick succession take more energy. When overused, Omega has to take more time in between jumps. Unlike a classic Subspace warp, when moving into Subspace, Omega appears to slip into darkness[6].
Subspace Immunity: Omega is immune to the effects caused by Subspace exposure. He can also move and protect people through subspace[5], but his protections grow weaker the more people he takes or the longer the jump.
Aethertech Eye: Allows Omega to track targets and follow trails, and boosts his visual senses. When examining a target, his eye flashes. Omega can also see in the dark.
Weaponry: Omega has a talent for making highly effective weapons on the fly[7]. Omega keep many unique weapons in Subspace, including Aethertech guns, and weapons that fire enchanted rounds.
Infection: Omega can infect objects and Aethertech, allowing him to empower or take over what he is infecting. For example, infecting a missile and multiplying its yields[8] or infecting Starhammer and gaining control of his arm.
