The first chapter of House of Blades from Indirial's perspective.
Indirial visited the Hanging Tree in Latari Forest. Korr called his attention to the Asphodel and Naraka Enoshan travelers attacking Simon and his family. He intended to wait and ambush them but decided to attack once he noticed Simon. He killed the Enoshans with little difficulty and then spoke to Simon, telling him to take care of his mother.

Kai was attacked by Ornheim wolves in the Badari Desert. He killed them and then continued on to retrieve a Dragon's Fang.
Simon faced the rain garden of Valinhall. He nearly made it through but fumbled near the end after trying to use his Nye essence. He went to the bath to heal and felt frustrated about his slow progress. Erastes stopped by to fetch him for Olissa and they talked, Erastes saying that he does not hold a grudge against Simon but does not consider him a friend. Simon watched Chaka fight Andra and Lycus and then followed Andra to the forge where Caius was working on the mask and then into the workshop, provided to the Agnos family by the Elest Nye. Before Simon could ask about the workshop or the mask, Alin called for him.
