The Advocates are the self-proclaimed guardians of the galaxy, and play an essential role in policing and protecting the Free Worlds. Though the Free Worlds mainly stick to their own planetary governments, the Advocates have played such an essential role that they gained quasi-official authority over the Free Worlds[1]. Up until events taking place in The Engineer, the Advocates were led by Starhammer.

Description

In the early days before the Advocates, the planetary governments in the Free Worlds planned to cooperate to police any problems. In an attempt to gain control over the Free Worlds, Solstice orchestrated chaos in the Free Worlds, causing a rise in pirates, terrorists, and troublemakers. The Free Worlds nearly fell apart until the original Advocates, at that point only a group of vigilantes, appeared and brought order and protection to the planets [1]. Over time, the Advocates became corrupt. Additionally, there is inner conflict within the Advocates, with some wanting to spread their cause to the rest of the galaxy.

Galactic Reputation and Political Relations

Karoshan Alliance

The Alliance has a negative relationship with the Advocates, and view them as ineffective and should be replaced with themselves.

Galactic Union

The Advocates have a general distrust about the Galactic Union. However, there are Advocates stationed in Union space[2], and cooperation with the Union occurs when capturing criminals[3][4]. Within the Galactic Union, there is the belief that the Advocates were merely a patchwork solution that would eventually collapse, and the Free Worlds needed a more stable government.

Free Worlds

The Free Worlds consider Advocates heroes, and incapable of the mismanagement and corruption found in other police forces.

Fleet

The Advocates mainly use blue and white starships, which are occasionally customized to the Advocate that owns it. Individually the Advocate ships aren’t powerful, and most Advocates weren’t great starship pilots. In large numbers, however, their wide variety of powers can make them troublesome to deal with[5].

Membership

High Council

The current Advocate's High Council is composed of Starhammer's most trusted friends and peers. There are a total of six, excluding Starhammer himself. Each have command over their own jurisdiction of Advocates. Known members:

Low Council

Beneath the High Council, this was the position Steel Avalanche was in when he and Varic Vallenar first encountered eachother in one of Varic's alternative life.
