Unsouled is a status in Sacred Valley that refers to a person with no Spiritual Origin. It is a very shameful title, indicating that one has little or no potential in the Sacred Arts. As such an Unsouled is not permitted to follow a Path, receives no help from the clan for advancement and are not permitted to marry for fear of passing on their disability. In the Wei Clan, despite an Unsouled providing no benefit, they are still given their own house, given food and drink, and are permitted to work certain jobs.
Outside the valley the concept of being an Unsouled does not exist, it is simply considered a madra defiency which can be corrected over time. Yerin, one of the few from outside the valley to hear the term, considers it to be superstitious nonsense.
Lindon is the only Unsouled to be revealed in the series so far.
