Halfsilver is a metal on Cradle.
Halfsilver looks like mundane silver with the addition of glittering sparks that look like stars. It is physically more brittle than silver, but it inherently disrupts madra around it, making it useful for many purposes.[1] Sword aura resonance techniques work poorly with halfsilver weapons, presumably due to these disruptive properties.[2]
Halfsilver is mined in Sacred Valley on Mount Venture by the Kazan clan and Golden Sword School;[3] it is unusually common in the valley[4] and considered more valuable outside it.[5][6]
The Lesser Treasure Hall of the Heaven's Glory School contains a number of halfsilver weapons, as well as at least one parasite ring.[1] Lindon takes the ring and a dagger on his way through the school.[2]
Uses
- Parasite rings are made of scripted halfsilver.[7][1]
- Some weapons and shields, especially in Sacred Valley, contain halfsilver; while some are made entirely out of halfsilver, others contain it in combination with other materials to counteract its physical weakness.[1][8][9][10][11]
- The Kazan clan uses halfsilver and goldsteel in their static defenses to disrupt magical attacks.[12]
- Cuffs or chains made out of halfsilver make it harder for the wearer to use madra; they are typically used on prisoners.[13][14][15][16][12] Similarly, halfsilver is incorporated into high-security prison cells.[17]
- Halfsilver is used as currency in Sacred Valley in the form of small rectangles known as "chips".[5]
- Halfsilver is used in many Soulsmithing tools, such as tongs.[1][6]
- In the traditional badge system, halfsilver represents the Lord realm.[18]
