Tiberian Arelius, the Storm King, was the beloved Patriarch of House Arelius and benevolent Monarch of over half of the Rosegold continent. Approximately eight years before the 18th Uncrowned King Tournament (see book 7), Tiberian was slain in battle by Lion Monarch Reigan Shen. In the aftermath, most of the Rosegold continent was devastated and House Arelius was left in ruins. Tiberian’s Remnant still remains intact, though.

Cladia Arelius, the Sage of a Thousand Eyes, survived the attack, but just barely.

Appearance

A man with short, blond hair and a cropped golden beard sat behind a desk, speaking to the person leaving the memory. There were few thoughts attached to it, only his appearance and his words. -Reaper, Chapter 2[1]

“He looked like Eithan’s older brother, with short hair and a short beard, and a deeper light crackled in his eyes.” (Reaper, ch 16)

Path

The Path of the Raging Sky

  • madra - Aspects of water, wind, lightning

Path: Raging Sky.

Most “storm” Paths are really only lightning Paths, but the Path of the Raging Sky harvests water, wind, and lightning aura in balance with one another. As an interesting side effect, practitioners can adjust their madra to bring one aspect or another to the forefront, so that it can often feel like facing three different Paths — one of water, one of wind, and one of lightning - rather than a single, unified set of techniques. (Wintersteel ch 10)

Personality

As a young sacred artist, Tiberian was known for his hard work and diligence mastering his techniques. Simultaneously humble to his superiors, and merciful to his inferiors, Tiberian grew into his power to become a wise and beneficent ruler of his half of the Rosegold continent.

He was also a learner throughout life. His research led to a treatment for healing a mangled spirit, The Pure Storm Baptism.

His Death

Tiberian died several years before Book #1 (Unsouled) when young Wei Shi Lindon left Sacred Valley with Yerin.

Monarch Tiberian Arelius had in his employ a young prodigy, Eithan Arelius. Impressed because Eithan successfully accessed the secret tomb of the historic Grand Patriarch Ozmanthus Arelius, Tiberian made the young Underlord one of his most trusted advisors.

Eithan advised Tiberian that Dreadgods needed to be eliminated once and for all, and he showed the king a way to do it. So Tiberian approached his neighboring Monarch on the Rosegold continent, Reigan Shen —— against Eithan’s advice.

However, Reigan Shen attacked Tiberian, because he had another plan in mind for the Dreadgods. War broke out between the two Monarch factions, and the tremendously loud battle aroused the Weeping Dragon, a Dreadgod. Tiberian died, his lands utterly ravaged. (Report, Wintersteel ch 10)

Tiberian’s dream was to rid the world of the Dreadgods.” Yerin’s eyebrows raised, but Lindon wasn’t too surprised. He suspected she wasn’t either. The Arelius crest on the sealed hand implied as much. “We found a method of doing so, and I encouraged him to pursue the cooperation of the other Monarchs,” Eithan said with a sigh. “He insisted on starting with Reigan Shen. Against my advice, might I add. You can usually count on Monarchs to avoid open conflict, both because there is rarely a definitive winner and because there are usually several million definitive losers. “Reigan Shen struck back almost immediately. In the end, Tiberian was not his match.” (Reaper, ch 16)

His Remnant

Reigan Shen keeps Tiberian’s Remnant in his void space, enslaved with a magical collar to employ as a weapon, a killer.

Multi-colored lightning thundered out of the portal. . . A man’s face pushed through, and Lindon could make out clear features of his face. This spirit was at least as dense as Little Blue or Ruby, with a similar level of existence. He looked like Eithan’s older brother, with short hair and a short beard, and a deeper light crackled in his eyes. When he emerged, spiritual pressure pushed down on all of them. Even Reigan Shen flinched briefly at the tension in the air. This was a Monarch without months of hunger aura eroding his spirit. A true Monarch’s Remnant. As its gaze landed on Eithan, Lindon saw a golden collar encircling the Remnant’s throat. Runes on the gold blazed with power. “Eithan,” the Remnant said, with a voice like buzzing lightning. “You survived.” (Reaper, ch 16)
