Seshethkunaaz, the King of Dragons and Monarch of the eastern Ashwind continent

Descriptions

  • One of Cradle’s most advanced Sacred Beasts
  • Ancient
  • A gold dragon
  • Monarch rank
  • Dubbed “The Wandering King of Dragons”
  • He often takes the form of a human boy
  • as a young boy, he’s cloaked, and small, with dark skin and golden eyes
  • can easily shift back to dragon shape

Seshethkunaaz, King of Dragons, was in the form of a boy perhaps thirteen years old. He had sandy hair and bright gold eyes, and he sat on the floor, most of his body covered in a filthy brown cape. (Wintersteel ch 1)

Territory

  • Eastern Ashwind Continent
  • Borders the Wasteland, a desert, a buffer zone guarded by The Beast King
  • Key Landmark — a volcano —

"More than five thousand miles to the northeast of Akura territory, dragons of every shape and color fly around a volcano. Their roars fill the air and shake the earth as a small figure hikes closer and closer. In the form of a cloaked human boy with golden eyes, he approaches: Seshethkunaaz, the wandering King of Dragons." (epilogue Underlord)

His Kin

  • Xorrus — Herald rank, Left Hand of the Dragon Monarch, Path of the Burning Wasteland)
  • Sopharanatoth — Competed as Underlady / Overlady in Uncrowned King Tournament. (Path of the Flowing Flame)
  • Nagatonatoth (Path of the Flowing Flame, Truegold Rank)
  • Ekerinatoth (Path of the Flowing Flame, Truegold Rank. See book 5, Ghostwater)
  • Derianatoth (Path of the Flowing Flame, Highgold Rank)

The Rootfather

Perhaps not truly kin to Sesh, Garrylondryth is a green dragon dubbed The Rootfather. He is of Herald Rank. He heals nature, replenishes wasted lands. He’s not inclined to warfare, but to healing and nurturing the war-torn world, so his alliance with Sesh is probably not based in shared philosophy. While negotiating with Reigan Shen, Eithan Arelius is promised the Rootfather’s help in restoring his ravaged homeland on the Rosegold continent (book 8, Wintersteel).

His Enemies

His greatest enemies are The Beast King, a human Herald who befriends Sacred Beasts and keeps dragons out of the Wastelands; the Monarch Northstrider who hunts dragons; and House Akura, who vie against him for control of the entire Ashwind Continent. His specific enemies in the Akura clan are Herald Akura Fury and Monarch Akura Malice.

His Path / Beliefs

Seshethkunaaz follows the Path of the Wasteland. He can whip up huge sandstorms. He believes that survival of the fittest should be the world's only law. He despises arbitrary laws against killing the weak. He is hard on humans, wiping out entire human villages. He wants the entire Ashwind continent, but Akura Malice has the western half. (Uncrowned)

His Backstory

"Gold dragons have a natural affinity for fire and water aura, but Seshethkunaaz was born in the desert. An exile, he was left by the rest of his kind to die.
He was found by a group of human nomads, who saved the dying dragon and raised him as part of their family. He formed a contract with one of their children, providing him with enough pure madra to dilute his spirit. With time and great effort, he was able to change the nature of his madra and embark on the Path of the Wasteland. He and his contractor were raised as brothers, and they advanced together at great speed.
When he reached Underlord, he took on a human form like that of his contractor. His adoptive parents shortened his name to Sesh, introducing the two of them as twin brothers, and explaining Sesh’s remaining draconic traits as part of his Goldsign.
For years, they remained content. Until Sesh’s brother killed a child.
In a conflict between hot-tempered boys, Sesh’s young contractor lost his temper. He struck a Lowgold, forgetting his strength as an Underlord. His victim perished instantly.
In many lands, an Underlord would not be held responsible for any actions against a Gold. But the laws of this nation prohibited the murder of anyone regardless of advancement, and the young victim was the descendant of a powerful clan.
Sesh’s family fled in the night, but they were soon caught. Sesh’s brother was executed for murder, reckless use of power, and fleeing justice." (Presence Report, Uncrowned, book 7)
